Don't Practice To Be Miserable, Practice To Be Excellent!

Obstacles: Be Flexible but, be tenacious!
I know it has been some time since my last Blog Post but, I just read a few of the latest LinkedIn Posts on "What Inspires Me" or "Reasons to be Motivated at Work". I feel a response is in order. I was in the United States Marines, prior to my tour of Duty I felt as though I had very little motivation. But, Marine Corps Boot Camp and my Service taught me, you don't need a "Reason" to be motivated; You have to Feel motivated! One must change the ego's perspective and purge "the Me, the I, the You" from the picture and focus on the goal and the goal alone. If your energies and efforts are not focused solely on the Mission of your Company Endeavor then you stand little chance of achieving 100% of that End.
When I set a goal or start a new project I let it infuse my Being and wake up each day, excited to break new ground, meet new people, learn from them and get them excited about what this project is at the same time. If you are ho-hum, no one in the World will care about going that extra yard or mile to help you in your part of achieving that Dream if one should fail to put their Heat and Soul into it. When you see a bunch of Marines all gritty and Dirty coming in off a 30 Mile Hump, they may seem in agony and miserable. Limping with Blisters and Aching Muscles but look into those Marine's Eyes and you will see the same light of Pride and Inspiration as any NASA Team that just achieved the impossible in Space. This kind of pride for the sacrifice of sleep, time, energy in the furtherance of a goal can be seen in these moments of accomplishment which is so inspiring.
In the Marine Corps we practiced to be Miserable and that hard work paid off when it cam time to accomplish the Mission. Now every day I ask you to practice to be excellent in everything you do. There a many facets to success but I like these: Mission Focus, Excitement that gravitates Others to your Cause, invest yourself in your Goals and project that inspiration (it's contagious), Heart and Soul... Mind Body Spirit. Even if you are a Company of One this selfless change of perception will win you a team and your Dream!
